Papers, 1942-1992.

Collection consists of of the professional papers of Ethel Silver Young. The bulk of the collection consists of teaching and classroom observation notes, administrative papers, and teaching curriculum from the many workshops and nursery schools where Ethel Young taught. The administrative and teaching papers mainly pertain to the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) but also include materials from schools such as the Idyllwild School of Music and Arts (ISOMATA), Jewish Educational Center Nursery School, Heights Cooperative Nursery School and the various PAUSD nursery schools, including Ventura School, Peninsula School, Ross Road School, Aliso Village School and the Palo Verde School. There are also study abroad and research files with newspaper clippings, articles, brochures, and pamphlets. The study abroad files mostly contain material from the Summer Schools of the British Association, through which Ethel Young studied abroad and eventually led tours of educators abroad to England. The research files comprise of materials collected on numerous topics that represent the educational interests of her career. The collection also includes films on 16mm reels, from the many films she contributed as consultant and author. Also included are photo albums, slides, photo negatives, photo prints, and student art as pertaining to Ethel Young's teaching career and classroom documentation. Lastly, is a set of activity cards and four films, published by Houghton Mifflin as the Amazing Life Games Theatre.
